The Artist in Learning: A Proposed New Pedagogical Hierarchy

Abstract

This paper proposes a new pedagogical hierarchy to be used when teaching K-12 and post-secondary performing and visual arts classes. This three-tiered hierarchy places the value of personal expression over perfect execution of technique. This paper explains the three tiers, provides examples of how they will look within an art classroom, and discusses how the hierarchy would work with the eight visions of arts education posited by Eisner.
