Collaborative Project-Based Learning Through Design Thinking for Engaged Learning Framework in Multiple Disciplines

Abstract

The study used design thinking to structure collaborative project-based learning in a longitudinal, iterative, and cross-disciplinary design-based research project. The objective is to capture participants’ learning experience and to provide evidence-based yet actionable insights for future research and subsequent iteration. Reflections were coded, a symmetrical correlation matrix was created for network map construction, and Girvan-Newman cluster analysis was used to investigate network links between strengths and struggles. These complex interdependencies were analyzed, resulting in design moves being crafted for the next iteration. One of our most important findings is that collaborative project-based learning is poised to help students develop collaborative capabilities and to provide necessary experiences as the world transitions to a more collaborative future.
