"A Brighter Tomorrow": Queer Teacher and Teacher Educator Perspectives on the Benefits of a More Inclusive Social Studies Education

Abstract

Our paper presents ways to see, act, and dream in service of promoting LGBTQ+ inclusive social studies education in PK-12 schools. Using queer and sociocultural theories, we examine LGBTQ+ teacher and teacher-educator perspectives on championing LGBTQ+ inclusive histories as a tool for combating anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and sentiments. Our paper will identify specific recommendations for educator preparation programs and K-12 schools in ways to build LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces and curricular trajectories.
