This study investigates how faculty understand pre-service’s needs to promote socioemotional learning as well as equity and inclusion through poetry and technology. It explores ways to build community, promote open pedagogy, encourage creativity, and gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a teacher. It demonstrates the power of using poetry and technology as a combined tool for authentic self-expression and effective communication. We report findings from the analysis of the poems created by faculty and students and discuss the strengths and challenges of adopting such a pedagogical approach to engage and empower our teacher candidates in the process of promoting socioemotional learning.
