First-generation student (FGS) has become a recent field of study in Latin-America as a result of the massification processes of higher education. This work seeks to critically analyze articles on EPG published by authors affiliated with Latin-American universities, between 2002 and 2020, and indexed in WoS, Scopus and SciELO. And studying the dimensions investigated, theoretical approaches and methodologies used. The results show that research on EPG in Latin America is recent and this has mainly been developed at the south of the region. Additionally, Latin-American papers about follow the theoretical patterns of the global north, that is, the object of study on FGS is approached through theories that mainly emphasize individual characteristics as a determining factor for permanence and dropout.
