Leadership is widely recognized as a key driver of quality outcomes in the education sector, yet little evidence exists about how to effectively develop or scale leadership development in early care and education (ECE). When evidence-based leadership development is successfully scaled up, it has the potential to produce field-wide impact. The present study investigated the early scale-up phase of a leadership development program (LDP) in a state’s ECE training and technical assistance (T/TA) system. Results showed that participants’ leadership competencies improved significantly from pre-test to post-test when certified facilitators delivered LDP in the T/TA system. Interviews with facilitators revealed several strengths and areas of growth that can maximize opportunities and minimize constraints in the LDP implementation at scale.
