Significant research exists on teaching and learning in out-of-school contexts and on teachers’ collaborations in-school; however, less research examines how teachers collaborate to develop curriculum for out-of-school programs. We ask, how did three K-12 teachers develop their curriculum together during a summer out-of-school youth program? Two features of the teachers’ collaboration surfaced in our analysis: (1) their shared orientation toward culturally sustaining pedagogies informed the creation of a student-centered curriculum, and (2) they drew from their collective strengths and identities to collaboratively plan and teach in an unprecedented learning context. Through collaborative narrative inquiry methods, we explored how the teachers leveraged their pedagogies, strengths, and identities to cultivate a curriculum that centered students’ multiple identities and literacies.
