This paper offers a conceptual framework at the intersection of equity and scale, bringing together ongoing conversations in the learning sciences related to the design of equitable learning environments and the importance of scaling (i.e., moving learning designs beyond a small number of classrooms and communities to more settings). With this framework, the authors aim to address tensions between scholarship on equitable learning environments in the learning sciences and issues of scale. The paper concludes with discussion of alternate approaches to scale that attend to principles of equitable learning environments and efforts to create conditions that can enable these learning environments to thrive in multiple settings.
