Abstract

Mentoring dialogues are conducive to pre-service teachers' (PSTs) learning in internships at school. In this context the literature suggests that the impact on PSTs’ professional development is higher when mentor teachers (MTs) are trained. Therefore, MT trainings that focus on improving MTs supervisory skills are a more recent area of interest in educational research. The aim of this review is a) to conceptualize the theoretical frameworks of MTs’ trainings focused on in previous research and b) to map the key facets of MT trainings that aim to improve MTs’ supervisory skills. Altogether, eight studies were included. A coaching stance that includes co-planning and -teaching as well as feedback which encourages reflection emerged as a common theme in the initial analysis.
