Abstract

In this paper, we consider the ways in which the Knowledge Quartet (KQ) is useful for connecting in-service teacher content knowledge to their practices while teaching about proportions. We used the KQ to analyze videos of two teachers as they implement lessons related to proportions. We noticed that the KQ assumed a more didactic approach to teaching than we saw in the participants’ classrooms, therefore, we began to experiment with the KQ to align it to the teaching we saw. Our conclusions were that while additional codes were needed to capture important applications of CK in the teachers’ practices, the four dimensions of the KQ remained unchanged.
