Self-Coherence is proposed as the hub of all needs, a master sensor of behavior indirectly guiding our life experience. Positioned as an integrative mechanism, through it we may uncover and gain further understanding of underlying interactions and effects in motivation, decision-making, emotions, belief, knowledge construction, identity and self-concepts beyond what is observed. i.e. the hidden “why” in our choices and how that may shape us. This foundational qualitative phenomenology study tested that proposition and reveals workings of the self-coherence mechanism. 24 participants (16 LGBTQ identified), 45 hours of interviews, 700 concepts, 42 categories, and 7 themes emerged from an in-depth analysis using concept mapping in Atlas.ti. A conclusive visual model is presented in which results are dynamically displayed.
