Impact of an Open Online Repository to Support Online Teaching and Learning: The Users' Perspective

Abstract

P[anon] Repository for online Teaching and Learning (PoRTAL) was created as an open educational resource (OER) digital repository to provide strategies and resources to help instructors enhance their online courses. We conducted a design based research study that guided us through iterative cycles of revision and improvement involving multiple stakeholders (subject matter experts, faculty, instructional designers, and students). This presentation focuses on the summative evaluation and effectiveness of PoRTAL. One-year follow-up evaluation data from 19 international faculty, 10 US-based faculty, and 45 graduate teaching assistants indicated that although some implementation challenges exist, the repository enhanced their online teaching skills. This OER work advocates for access to evidence-based practices in distance education combating misinformation about online learning.
