Abstract

A survey study was conducted to better understand children’s language and literacy experience at home during COVID-19 pandemic. 40 caregivers in a southeast city in the U.S. provided information about home language and literacy experiences, the challenges they are facing and the support they are seeking while delivering language and literacy activities at home. We conducted descriptive, proportion z score and Hedge’s g method to analyze data. Cronbach’s Alpha indicated high internal consistency reliability of the data from the questionnaire. The results showed that even though a majority of parents reported changes in children’s home language and literacy practices due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they did not feel any challenges or need any support because of the changes.
