Abstract

The purpose of this study is to quantify the evidence available and ascertain the current status of research on effective practices of holistic undergraduate mentoring by faculty through a systematic review. This research aims to answer the question: How have universities, departments, or programs facilitated undergraduate mentoring by faculty members in the last two decades? While undergraduate mentoring by faculty is overall a positive experience for all involved; there has yet to be empirical, quantitative evidence of mentoring’s significance on retention within the field.
