Faculty Mobility in Higher Education: Does Gender Matter?

Sat, April 15, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, Chicago, Floor: 2nd Floor, Aegean

Abstract

This study quantitatively examines the gender differences in reasons and patterns of faculty mobility at four-year colleges and universities. Based on the statistical results, compared to their male colleagues, female faculty are more likely to switch to a different institution or change positions. Racial factors can additionally exacerbate mobility disparities among female faculty members. The main differences in the reasons for the mobility of male and female faculty are children-related issues.
