Preservice Teachers Analyze Lesson Plans: Results of a Pilot Study

Sun, April 16, 4:40 to 6:10pm CDT (4:40 to 6:10pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

Designing lessons or analyzing instruction are core practices (CP) and competences of teachers. That is why, teacher education programs not only aim to train but also to measure the pre-service teachers (PSTs) competences. In order to measure the analytical competence (AC) of PSTs in lesson planning, a vignette-based online tool was developed. To prove if the tool is apt to measure AC in lesson planning of PSTs, quality criteria of the tool need to be checked. In a first step, we analyzed PSTs rating regarding authenticity, general evaluation, cognitive involvement and evaluation of items being considered as aspects of validity. Results of the pilot study indicate that participants perceived the tool appropriate for the analysis.
