Abstract

This paper is an account of the process and an attempt at ‘thinking from a southern point of view’ in an initial teacher education (ITE) course in Australia. As a Brazilian living in Australia, I reveal my most Southern self to help me navigate the conflicting neoliberal waters of an ITE program. First, I discuss the development of the concept of Global South which leads to Southern Theory (ST) as a pedagogical project. Next, there is ST in education as a possibility for pursuing epistemic justice. I then introduce the pedagogical political project as an example of a product of Southern thought and describe how I adapted its guiding principles to redevelop an ITE course for secondary pre-service teachers.
