A Systematic Review on Mathematics Education and Technology

Abstract

This study aims to provide a systematic review of mathematics education and technology using the peer-reviewed journal articles published in the last four decades (1981–2022) after the publication of the NCTM document (1980). Using a topic modeling technique, we found the seven topics on the use of technology in mathematics education, such as “the effect of technology on cognitive and affective development.” We also examined the proportion of each topic by a 10-year period, and found Topic “Using technology for conceptual understanding” showed a gradual increase in its popularity over time. The findings of this study will provide information on past and present research trends of technology use in mathematics education and directions for future studies.
