Diffractive Analysis of Walking Interviews in a Carceral Setting: Using Poststructural Inquiry to Disentangle Outcomes

Abstract

This process-paper explores the conflicts occurring in post-structural inquiry informed by theorists including Foucault, Deleuze and Guattari. I will share my diffractive approaches after Barad (2007) and Haraway (2016) to analyse findings of research in carceral spaces. Transcripts of walking interviews are diffracted using Foucault’s ideas and a multi-modal approach to analysis. I draw on St. Pierre’s (2021) approach to postqualitative inquiry to, read, write, create, and invent. This paper and the subsequent conference then become part of that fold. The objective of the paper is to feel through entanglements of structural, prison education hierarchies and post-structural philosophies informing the inquiry. The paper pushes against normative structures in academia, I am therefore becoming activist and ask you to join me.
