Abstract

This study investigates what preservice secondary language arts teachers think about collaborative arts integration practices for teaching intercultural literature. Preservice teachers read Abenaki writer Joseph Bruchac’s post-apocalyptic YA novel, Killer of Enemies (2013) and view visual works of art in Each/Other, a 2021/2022 collaborative exhibition by Indigenous artists Marie Watt and Cannupa Hanska Luger. After completing three collaborative arts integration activities based on the works, preservice teachers describe confidence in art making experiences, supported by positive peer interactions and feedback.
