Abstract

This paper makes the case for what we call Teachers’ Democratic Assignment (TDA) in a globalising world experiencing a slow suffocation of democracy in an era of post-truth. We emphasise the necessity for making spaces in education for the moral consciousness located in a thick democracy. Our research is positioned within critical studies and draws from Critical Feminist Policy Research Analysis to make the case for an emancipatory teacher education for a just global world and sustainable planet. A select literature review reveals TDA is rapidly reducing to a ‘what works best’ theory of evaluation with the loss of localised autonomous professional judgements and the public interest values needed for an education system committed to a democratic way of life.
