Abstract

This paper discusses and analyzes the initial outcomes and possible trajectories of an NSF-Funded grant that unites families, schools, and communities in creating STEM spaces for Latino/a/x middle school students. This bilingual STEM program blends content area concepts with social-emotional and identity building elements and family engagement that often fall behind content in many school systems and practices. Parents play a critical role not only as their children's first teachers, but as ongoing advocates and supports as their children grow. The successes, challenges, and adjustments based on parent perspectives and input in the ongoing grant project are discussed in this paper to help inform more inclusive programs for diverse communities.
