Abstract

In 2020 a mid-west university removed the requirement for undergraduate applicants to submit test scores. This policy change was made as the admission council agreed that the scholastic aptitude test (SAT) and the American college test (ACT) scores did not reflect students' potential success. Historical data also shows the negative impact that the SAT and ACT have had on diversifying predominantly white institutions (PWI). The school of education researched how this policy change had an impact on diversity, admission numbers, and candidate performance. This was done by comparing the 2020 cohort to the previous year's candidates. Data from literature reviews and admissions were collected and analyzed to support the research questions. The research limitations were considered when exploring the findings.
