This study examines the relation between state teacher licensure policies and number of prepared special education teachers. We used Title II data (2011-2019) and policy enactment data collected from multiple sources and conducted a difference-in-differences analysis to test potential effects of state dual licensure policies on the number of special education teachers prepared by state. Findings indicate stronger effects of dual licensure policies in larger states than in smaller states, though direction of policy effects differs by state. We present our findings in the context of implications for further research and policy.
