In this collaborative multi-methodological self-study, we explore how we foster belonging within our own music and drama teaching practices. Our interest in this topic stems from our personal histories of social disconnectedness, which has shaped our pedagogical practices. Through reflection and diffraction, a new materialist methodology that allows for transversal readings across disciplines and theories, we gain a deeper knowledge of how we promote belonging to make recommendations for other disciplines. To frame this work, we draw on critical posthumanism, which offers ways to conceptualize belonging as continuous becomings through intra-actions between humans and non-human actors. We consider our self-study a dynamic, complex, and contextualized praxis that can be applied interdisciplinarily and between educational hierarchies
