Trauma-informed care is an approach to helping people with exposure to traumatic incidents. For schoolteachers and students, traumatic exposure can range from horrific events like school shootings, student suicides, family member deaths due to gun violence or drug overdose, or environmental threats such as floods, fires, and storms. This study is an implementation of a new approach to training school leaders in Mexico to be prepared to marshal necessary resources in response to traumatic episodes in schools. We contend that relying solely on the expertise of mental health professionals is insufficient, and it is imperative that school leaders be trained in the effective practices for responding to the needs of trauma-exposed youth.
