What Did We (Not) Learn From COVID-19? Eco-Pedagogical Calling (Un)Heard

Abstract

The devastating COVID-19 pandemic has provided windows to view needed transformation to help end devastation emergent from outside our subjective, political “world” (the anthroposphere), including environmental unsustainability. Pedagogically, these views help to recognize the needed changes, challenges, and possibilities of environmental (in/non/)formal teaching. In a paper I presented last year’s conference I argued what “should” be learned from the pandemic. This paper gives critical, Freirean analyses on what was (un)taught, the politics behind the hows and whys, and what we must do, including the challenges, for paradigm shifting environmental pedagogies to avoid planetary tipping points. Freirean ecopedagogy will be unpacked and ground this paper’s analyses.
