Abstract

The more a teacher is noticing the student's thinking, the more efficient he can design a learning environment. In this study, it has been investigated how the noticing of 21 secondary school mathematics teachers towards students' mathematical thinking has changed in terms of learning areas. Noticing is obtained in the light of indicators of the dimensions of interpreting and responding to the students' mathematical thinking. As a result of the study, it was seen that teachers’ noticing in statistics learning area was significantly lower in terms of dimensions of interpreting and responding to students' understandings compared to other learning areas. It is considered that there is a need to increase teachers’ statistical competence.
