Quality Out-of-School Actions to Promote the Successful Educational Careers of Children and Adolescents in Care

Thu, May 4, 4:15 to 5:45pm CDT (4:15 to 5:45pm CDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, Out-of-School Time SIG Virtual Paper Room

Abstract

There is evidence of the low levels of education obtained by children and adolescents in care. This fact means that a low percentage of young people who have been in care receive higher education and achieve greater well-being and a better quality of life. The paper presents the results of research that show how the successful educational action: "Extension of Learning Time", through the implementation of scientific dialogues and scientific workshops in three residential cares after school hours, motivates scientific vocations, increases their knowledge in these areas and it is observed how the academic expectations of the participants change. This experience changes their perception of their academic and professional future, thus transforming their vision of the future.
