Tensions in Technology-Mediated Activities as a Resource for Teachers' Professional Digital Development

Sat, April 15, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 4th Floor, Clark - 1/2 Marriott Ballroom

Abstract

According to educational policies, teachers are expected to involve technology in teaching activities to support the pupils’ digital competence. However, teachers’ perspectives of their experiences and their professional digital competence remain less focused on research. Underpinned by sociocultural perspectives and founded on design-based research, which highlights the collaborative aspect of this study, teachers’ reflections on competences needed in technology-mediated teaching activities were analyzed with an analytic focus on tensions as a point of departure in teachers’ reasoning. Preliminary tensions were found between teachers’ piloting the pedagogical task and supporting pupils’ curiosity, from the notion of teachers “learning together” with pupils and between the content knowledge that becomes the background and the technology used as the method in technology-mediated teaching practices.
