Abstract

This systematic literature review focuses on teachers’ professional knowledge in integrating digital game-based learning in schools. A review of articles published in leading journals engaging with the subject of digital game-based learning in the education field from 2009 to 2020 yielded a corpus of 308 articles, of which only 5% address teachers’ roles. This analysis presents three main issues: (1) Teachers’ perceptions and attitudes; (2) Practices of integrating games; and (3) Professional development. Analysis of these issues by means of the professional skills of diagnosis, intervention, and inference, suggests future research directions focused on a combination of the three skills to combine digital games and teachers’ professional development.
