This study examined the relationship between school principals' authentic leadership and their teachers' level of engagement and trust. The sample includes 15 school principals and 71 teachers from the United States as well as 50 school principals and 620 teachers from China. A positive relationship between principals' and teachers' ratings of authentic leadership and teacher’s engagement and trust was reported. Teachers whose principals overestimated their authentic leadership showed lower levels of engagement and trust in comparison to teachers whose principals underestimate their authentic leadership. Chinese school principals reported lower authentic leadership than U.S. principals but Chinese teachers reported higher levels of engagement and trust. Moreover, Chinese teacher’s intention to return to work was also higher than the U.S. teachers.
