Policy and Advocacy: Advancing an Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander–Serving Institution Agenda in Washington, D.C.

Abstract

We [a national education policy organization in Washington DC] will be discussing AANAPISI advocacy efforts to uplift the impact of AANAPISIs, build champions, and engage partnerships to increase equitable funding for AANAPISI. We will provide an overview of the federal policy landscape and the opportunities that facilitated visibility and increased funding for AANAPISIs. As there is more work to be done, we will highlight our key policy goals to address the barriers that would best serve not only Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students but benefit other students of color as well, ensuring that support for AANAPISIs should not come at the expense of other MSIs. Lastly, they will be opportunities to hear about ways to engage and build allyship to support AANAPISI and AANHPI advocacy efforts on campuses and nationally.
