Abstract

High-quality early education can be a powerful way to support children’s development, yet preparation for early educators is inconsistent, leaving many teachers without the skills needed to provide young children with enriching learning experiences. Recently, there have been investments into professional development (PD) for early educators that aim to improve children’s opportunities for high-quality ECE. However, little is known about whether PD is linked to quality outside of experimental contexts and across the various ECE sectors where children are served. We leverage data from a community sample of early educators working in state pre-k and child care sites to provide new evidence about teachers’ PD experiences and links between PD and classroom practice.
