Despite teaching being a feminized profession in Canada, with at least 75% (CTF, 2020) of the workforce identifying as women, women-teachers are under-represented in leadership roles. Data that would explain why women are not occupying leadership roles is fragmentary or non-existent.
This partnership project comprises University of Alberta, Alberta Teachers’ Association and College of Alberta School Superintendents; both have the ability to propose and implement policy changes. Together, we are conducting a large scale research on the intersection of gender including Indigenous and francophone perspectives. The outputs of this project include establishing baseline data, which we will use to close the gap in research, knowledge and practice, and contribute to policy-making to better support women across the intersections of gender.
