Enhancing the Pedagogical Practices of Teacher Educators in a Technical and Vocational Education and Training Program During COVID-19

Abstract

This Action Research project is a partnership between a Canadian University and a Jamaican University. The objective of the research was to explore how participation in an online professional development training and action research helped Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET )lecturers transform their teaching practices to inquiry-based teaching practices. Two faculty members from Canada and one faculty member from Jamaica facilitated the inquiry PD for a group of 11 lecturers from Jamaica. The research methodology adopted was collaborative action research (CAR). Lecturers engaged in a cycle consisting of: 1) a Zoom pre-meeting to reflect on perceptions of inquiry and prior practices, 2) an online inquiry workshop, 3) implementation of inquiry pedagogy in teaching, and 4) reflection on teaching practice.
