Abstract

This qualitative action research aimed to examine how and to what extent the course, ‘Ethics and Professional Context of Teaching,' which the researcher taught, improved criticality in teacher candidates’ understanding of professionalism. Multiple data sources were collected for this study, such as students’ written work samples for class activities, assignments, midterm and final projects, instructor’s feedback, and reflection. The findings of this study showed that multiple aspects of criticality were exhibited in various data. I attempted to improve my teaching practices to prepare education students to use critical thinking to understand and practice professionalism that may lead to their students’ academic excellence. This study will give all stakeholders in education insights into the need for criticality in professional development.
