The author argues for a Hip Hop-inspired design framework that includes four research principles. The paper offers an opportunity for us to reimagine composition studies, digital and media literacies, and multimodality in qualitative research. This paper asks us to consider the complex ways that sound offers opportunities for deep and critical listening in K-12 classrooms. The author demonstrates and argues for the doing of Hip Hop as-in-for research through the discussion of a multimodal Hip Hop dissertation album.
