As Sunflowers Face the Sun: The Experiences of Black and Indigenous Women School Administrators

Abstract

Through a decolonial feminist lens this qualitative study gives space and voice to the experiences of Black and Indigenous women school administrators. The study documents insights gleaned from interviews and focus groups to provide a rich research story that honours individual and collective voice. In the spirit of reciprocity, we document the research journey and our commitments to community driven knowledge dissemination. Researchers engaged the tenets of intersectionality and counter-storytelling to further situate the complex experiences of my participants, as well as further analyze the context of how their identity impacts their leadership. We will engage in public and community-based knowledge mobilization to share this knowledge with educational leaders in the Greater Toronto Area.
