Abstract

This study analyzed the effect of personal strengths and interpersonal social support on international students’ acculturative stress in South Korea. A meta-analysis of 55 related studies published from 2008 to 2022 was conducted. The overall relationship between the combined studies and acculturative stress was negative (r = -0.294), explaining that acculturative stress decreases when scores in personal strengths and interpersonal social support increase. Specifically, the effect size for personal strengths was medium (r = -0.365), and the effect size for interpersonal social support was small (r = -0.269). This study will provide useful information for educators to conduct further research studies on acculturative stress and for international students’ advisors in college to develop effective intervention programs for international students’ acculturation.
