Abstract

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, college students experienced academic transition from the traditional form of on-campus face-to-face education to online education. As a result, college students experienced mental health issues which exacerbated learning and academic success. Specifically, African American students encountered disparities regarding COVID-19 related outcomes. The purpose of this study is to understand the impact of COVID-19 related academic experiences on the process of learning among students attending a historically black university. The study is based on Schlossberg’s Transition Theory to better understand students’ experiences related to academic transition. Quantitative data were collected via online surveys and analyzed using multiple regression. Qualitative data were collected via interviews and were transcribed and coded for thematic analysis.
