Where Are the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Leaders? Achieving Culturally Responsive Leadership in California K–12 Public Schools

Abstract

This quantitative investigation addresses AERA’s theme of “Interrogating Consequential Education Research in Pursuit of Truth.” Using large data sets from California Department of Education, we examined race/ethnicity of K-12 public school administrators when compared to the children, 2015-16 through 2018-2019. We confirmed White administrators’ disproportionate representation when compared to its children, and White school leaders’ disproportionate representation when compared to BIPOC leaders. We offer solutions for equity and sustainability.
