There is a growing interest in promoting critical data literacy in K-12 education. A recommended pedagogy to promote critical data goals is through place-based learning (PBL). PBL provides opportunities for students to leverage their understanding of environments familiar to them to understand data in more meaningful ways. However, more studies are needed to understand how students enact or exhibit their understanding of data when they engage with the process of placemaking. In this research, we analyze classroom video recordings from three high schools and post-implementation interviews using a placemaking lens to understand how placemaking is enacted with respect to learning of data literacy. We present three processes in which students enacted placemaking, within the context of data literacy goals.
