Abstract

This study examined two aspects of school leadership: Distributed Leadership (DL) and principal instructional leadership (PIL) as levers for innovation. Through the use of the TALIS 2018 US teacher and principal data, we identified three measures of school innovation: organizational innovativeness, team innovativeness, and innovative teaching practices. By applying a multilevel structural equation model, we found that both DL and PIL positively predict all three outcomes of innovation especially distributed leadership and team innovativeness.
