English Pronunciation Self-Efficacy Scale: Development and Validation

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop and validate English Pronunciation Self-efficacy Scale. Data were from two-round responses from 1334 college students form a Chinese private university. The internal consistency was high with a Cronbach’s α ranging .82-.95. The test-retest reliability was .48 and .54, respectively, for the two dimensions. The structural aspect of construct validity was provided by the results from confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results of factorial invariance across gender and majors (English major and non-English major) revealed that the measurement model was invariant across gender and majors. The validity evidence based on relations with other variables was supported by significant correlations between English pronunciation self-efficacy beliefs and sources of English pronunciation self-efficacy.
