Sun, April 16, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

This paper investigates claims that digital natives require speed and technology in their learning. This study is situated within the International Baccalaureate Language and Literature programme’s Language and Literature classroom in one Singapore school. A questionnaire conducted with 41 students (17-18 years of age) examines the patterns of their in- and out-of-school use of technology. Semi-structured interviews also revealed the reasoning behind their choice of technology. The findings indicate that there are gaps between assumptions made and the actual use of digital natives’ technological needs.
