"I'll Wear Five Masks if I Need To": Teacher of Color Adaptations in Response to COVID-19

Abstract

The onset of COVID-19 had tremendous implications for teaching and learning, resulting in drastic shifts from distance learning to in-person learning within the 2020-2021 academic year. This proved to be a difficult time for all educational stakeholders, but particularly teachers, students, and families. This year-long qualitative study employed pláticas methodologies to explore how 14 teachers of color adapted their work to meet the needs of their students. Specifically, this study elucidates how these teachers of color adapted their expectations of teaching, of being a teacher, and their care for students.
