Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the underlying ideologies and politics of the synergy of cultural diversity and multiculturalism in Taiwanese high school EFL textbooks. Data were collected from two sets of EFL textbooks. The findings show although diversity and multiculturalism has been recognized as one of the crucial elements in Taiwan high school curriculum, its actual appearance in EFL textbooks is still few. Moreover, although minority groups’ discussions have appeared in some textbooks, the inclusion of minority groups’ social equality to combat social injustice and maintain their own rights is almost non-existent.
