Abstract

This study was to examine early childhood teachers’ multicultural awareness, as well as teacher characteristics, sense of teacher efficacy, and efficacy to implement inclusive practices. This study analyzed the data collected from 144 early childhood teachers who attended professional development workshops in summer and fall of 2019 at a university in the Northeastern United States. The results highlighted the optimal outcomes associated with increased multicultural awareness in early childhood education teachers who are able to feel efficacious, confident and successful in their ability to work and collaborate with a variety of diverse children, families and colleagues. This study discusses the continued need to offer professional development opportunities for improving multicultural awareness in languages other than English.
