Abstract

This paper proposes the potential practical implications in the field of academia and policy development concerning sociological sources of gender discrimination as perceived by Americans. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationship between gender and discrimination experience of American adults at work, and between gender and the perceived society treatment among a sample of 1,838 adults. Gender was the independent variable, and society treatment, discrimination experience, and education category the dependent variables. The findings revealed that the issue of gender discrimination at the workplace and in society as perceived by American adults does not accurately match experiences at work, with inconsistencies between perceptions and discrimination experiences.
